Jane’s Bridals

Before leaving for her destination wedding in Mexico, Jane wanted to do a quick bridal session. She originally hoped for an outdoor setting but alas, it was raining much of the afternoon. We “settled” on the Capitol because there wasn’t time to reschedule, and – oh my – she rocked it. The surroundings totally accentuated her elegance and class (as evidenced by the passers-by who were picking their jaws up off the ground!)

Utopia

In a former life I (Laura) made my entire living as a writer. I did it for about ten years and got burned out, so I switched to my other love — photography.  And as most of you know I’ve been primarily a photographer for the last five years.  Now that I’ve graduated from college and am no longer covered up in homework, I’m able to accept writing assignments here and there (when I’m not behind the camera.)  Last week I got invited to a junket for an upcoming film entitled, “Seven Days in Utopia.” The story is based on a book by David L. Cook, entitled, “Golf’s Sacred Journey: Seven Days at the Links of Utopia” and is about a disillusioned golfer who meets up with an unexpected mentor and learns a lot about life’s priorities. The film stars Lucas Black (Friday Night Lights, Get Low, All The Pretty Horses) Robert Duvall (do I even need to list his credits?) Melissa Leo (Academy Award nominee for Frozen River) Brian Geraghty (The Hurt Locker, Law and Order) and Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood.) On the day of the set visit, Woll was taking horseback lessons so that she’d be prepared for a scene they were to shoot the next day (hence, we didn’t see her.) I’ll be writing a feature story about the visit for another website, but wanted to share some photos I managed to snap along the way.

Lucas Black talking to reporters. Nice guy, deeeep southern drawl (he’s from Alabama.)

The guy on the right, Ezra Proch, plays the young version of Black’s character. I’d say they did a pretty good job on casting. Turns out Proch is a family friend of David Cook, who wrote the book.

Duvall, preparing to shoot a scene. Press had to stand pretty far back, and I didn’t bring my monster lens with me (too heavy to carry for a writing job!) So the best I could do is shoot from afar and crop in.

Duvall on a break from filming.

I don’t usually go for taking photos with celebrities, but I couldn’t pass this one up. Duvall is a legend.

There were several PGA golfers at the junket, and before dinner Stan Utley conducted a stroke clinic (which was completely wasted on me because I’m not fond of golf.) But another reporter participated, and I was all too happy to just sit back and take photos. By the looks of these shots I think she’s got it down!

Details

What one thing will define your wedding day? Getting married, of course. Duh. But any bride, groom, or parent will tell you that an incredible amount of time and energy go in to planning their all-important day. There’s locating the right dress, finding the perfect jewelry and deciding on tuxes. The flowers have to be chosen and arranged, the cake must be selected, and there are a hundred other little details to be attended to. If you ask us, beyond the obvious blessing of getting married, it is all of the above-mentioned elements that will add up to fantastic memories. By the time the happy couple is on their honeymoon, the flowers will have begun to wilt, the cake will be gone, and all of the beautiful decorations will be packed away in boxes.

We believe that capturing the beauty of your event is of primary importance. Never again will those flowers with those particular colors be arranged in the same way. Never again will you be that age, wearing that dress or tux, and celebrating with that particular gathering of people. Photos of details add up to vivid memories by painting a panoramic picture of what it was like on the day you said, “I do.” Here are a few of our favorite detail shots from recent weddings; we hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
